When the COVID-19 pandemic forced shutdowns in Uganda and else where , Our Access to Justice Initiative in Northern Uganda needed to quickly re-think how to continue their work to end violence against girls and women while being limited to the delivery of remote services.
Our community peer counsellor became our Lead responders supporting our Access to Justice Initiative and they resorted to tele-response approach using phones to remain in-touch, provide solution, engage and make referrals this strategy worked as we received and supported a total 202 cases through our community structure of peer counsellors.
We provide a framework and pivoted our programs, focusing on combatting violence against women and girls with only remote services, and responding to the new public health challenges that COVID brought to the communities they serve.
We remain committed to social justice and we are adapting to the new normal
